Modernization of radio base stations

Problem:

The client, a mobile operator in Italy, had an existing network infrastructure across Italy offering mainly 3G and 4G services to its clients. To be able to offer also 5G coverage, it needed to modernize parts of its network. The network contained a range of equipment from different vendors, adding the complexity of handling different technologies at once.

Solution:

EXI supported the operator by swapping and modernizing around 7000 nodes. EXI used its network of partners and subcontractors to accelerate the modernization process, replacing up to 300 nodes per week. The vast technical expertise of both EXI and its partners enabled it to handle all types of vendor technologies in parallel.

Result:

Thanks to the accelerated process, the operator was able to use its improved network immediately and extend 4G and 5G service throughout Italy, while also minimizing network downtimes for end customers.
