Nationwide roll-out of 5G ESS technology

Problem:

A major Italian mobile operator wanted to adopt 5G coverage in Italy as quickly as possible while maintaining a reasonable level of cost. The client already had an existing network with good 4G coverage throughout Italy, which needed to be made ready for future technologies.

Solution:

EXI used 5G ESS technology to upgrade the nodes of the existing network and thereby enable 5G services, without needing significant hardware changes. By streamlining the process, EXI could minimize the required amount of on-site work before configuring the updated nodes remotely. The total of over 7000 nodes were upgraded in only one year, fastening especially the integration phase to up to 530 nodes per week.

Result:

Building on the existing network infrastructure and using state-of-the-art technology led to significant cost savings for the client and minimized capital expenditure. Simultaneously, it allowed the operator to offer 5G services as soon as possible after deciding to invest into this technology, which was accelerated by EXI’s fast execution. Downtimes of the network and network problems for end consumer could also be minimized through the quick execution.
